TONY SIMPSON - RALLY NEWS in association with RallySchool.co.uk and MG X-Power.
'Yorkshire next for X-Power-ed Tony'.
Liverpool rally driver Tony Simpson returns to the forest of North Yorkshire this weekend, as he contests his second rally of the season, The North Humberside Forestry Rally.
The Hull based event is a qualifying round of the Silkolene 1400 National Rally Championship, and RallySchool.co.uk backed Simpson will be keen to perform well in his MG X-Power 1400cc machine. Simpson made his rallying comeback after a year's absence from the stages on the recent Malcolm Wilson Rally in Cumbria. Using the RallySchool.co.uk maintained MG for the very first time, Tony and co-driver Stefan Arndt from Hampshire showed that they had lost none of their competitive spirit as they took a comfortable 2nd in class on the event.
The Off Plan Limited supported Scouser spent the day learning about the former works prepared machine in the Lake District forests, and was very happy with the set up of the car by the end of the event. Simpson just edged out team mate Roland Jones for second in the class, giving RallySchool.co.uk an excellent two car presence on the N1 class podium.
This weekend brings many different challenges for SeaCon backed Tony. After the twisty stages native to Cumbria, the Yorkshire forests are more akin to motorways in comparison. The long high speed straights of Dalby will certainly keep Simpson on his toes on one of the fastest rallies within the UK motorsport calendar. Classic stages like Dalby and Cropton offer a stern test of driver skill, and Tony is looking forward to returning to the stages after last competing there in 2003. 'Its all pretty unique up there' said Tony. 'The speeds up there are mind-blowing - its just so fast. Only Kielder forest can offer faster stages, but your always in top gear in Yorkshire - it really is that fast. Obviously you need a good car around you to go well there, so I'm sure that the ex-works X-Power MG ZR will be well suited to the task.
I really enjoyed our outing in Cumbria recently, as it helped blow away some of the cobwebs. North Humberside will be a tough task, and I'm sure that Championship leader Niall Cowan will go well on those stages. My aim is to be as competitive as we can be, and hopefully pick up as many championship points as possible in the process. Its certainly an event that both Stefan and I are very much looking forward to.'
The North Humberside event will be Tony's second event in a five rally deal with the X-Power MG and RallySchool.co.uk. Tony will contest five rounds of the highly competitive Silkolene 1400 National Championship, with the possibility of adding events to the calendar at the end of the year if possible.
